Myerscough Basketball Tournament: MVP's
Most Valuable Player is an accolade that all basketball players dream of achieving. No matter what age or level in the game. Today I headed to the under 12's tournament in Myerscough. I saw so much talent and potential in each individual that touched the floor. It is so refreshing to see a new generation of players so passionate about the game and eager to develop, even at such a young age.
The amount of heart the kids displayed was simply inspirational. They threw their bodies onto the floor and into walls just to keep possession of the ball. Emotions ran high on the court as young leaders commanded the floor and helped energise their teammates. So much comradery as each team pulled together to turn around their moments of defeat and celebrate their moments of glory. High fives and words of encouragement passed from player to player. Basketball in its purist form.
The Myerscough Tournament was hosted at Myerscough college with 4 local teams:
- Blackpool
- Preston Pride
- Liverpool (Littlepool)
- Ormskirk
I was fortunate enough to sponsor the MVP award and gave away a 'Wilson' Basketball to the top performer from each team. This was not a easy choice to make as each team displayed leadership throughout there roster, a perfect example of personal development through sport. In the end, I awarded the prizes based on consistency and effort throughout the course of the day.
Here are our MVPs:
When watching the teams today, it took me back to my early years playing basketball when it was all my life consisted of. On my trip down memory lane I also remembered my coaches and the effort they put in to make all the tournaments and games possible. It is thanks to them, as well as the team around us, that we develop the way that we do: in confidence and ability. As coaches, it is our responsibility to ensure we nurture the talent and personality of each player that commits to our team.
